Why I prefer traveling by train instead of flying
Reducing your number of flights is a good example of individual climate action.
Traveling by train is so much nicer than flying, you can see the landscape slowly changing while reading or doing your work. No endless waiting, hanging around at airports, and passing security and
covid checkpoints.
Going by rail instead of taking a flight is also one of the best ways of individual climate action. I took this photo from the train that brought me from Geneva to Paris.
And this is the first photo of Paris. I can imagine why impressionist painters loved to paint in and around Paris; this picture reminds me of the impressionists.
Do you see what I mean?
What is the best train trip you ever made?1
I will share more of Paris this weekend.

You are fortunate to have excellent opportunities for train travel in Europe. In my country it’s much less accessible. I agree traveling by train is a wonderful experience. My favorite train trip was taking the Chunnel from London to Paris. Absolutely delightful!
Although the environmental benefits are greatest, these extraordinary photos make a terrific case for taking the train. They are stunning!
I look forward to the weekend!
You Europeans and your excellent trains.
As for my own trips, I loved train travel across countries when I was a study-abroad student in Austria. Changing the crew and engine was fascinating to me, along with passport control. Now it's blink-and-you-miss-it crossing borders.
Several years ago, I accompanied my mother on her bucket list train travel from Chicago to the Grand Canyon in Arizona. We had a sleeper car, ate on the train, etc. Not sure I would do that again, but I enjoyed it.
