And at the same time that this study is published by Swiss Re, the Florida legislature sends a bill to Governor Ron DeSantis that would ban offshore wind energy, relax natural gas pipeline regulations, and delete most mentions of climate change from state laws. And this in a state that is on the front lines when it comes to the impact of extreme weather events. So many people have become such true believers in their make believe reality that I don't think they will come around even when they can no longer afford (or even get) insurance and they lose their homes or see their neighbors/family suffer due to an extreme weather event. But I guarantee they will have their hands out and be screaming and crying for federal disaster assistance. It is hard to fathom how we have arrived at this point in human history.

We have climate catastrophes and business and governance refuse to move toward remedies. They won't until climate chaos directly impacts them at home. I don't see any other reason to believe otherwise.

Thanks for this very instructive article.

It’s clear and according to Swiss Re’s chart that there is a continuous intensification of economic losses.

πŸ‡¨πŸ‡ is in ninth position!

Clearly more reflection is imperative and more prevention + action also.

Thank you very much Alex for these very interesting and edifying detailsπŸ’―πŸ’―

The fact that Climate Change becomes, with supporting figures, a major economic slowdown or perhaps even in term, a significant brake on global growth, will force States to react, by getting involved and operationally in the fight against climate change.

β€œWarnings in dollars are harder to ignore.”

I’m not at all surprised to see the US ranking in economic losses from weather events.

It’s become commonplace to see devastating losses from extreme weather. A terrible tornado disaster occurred blocks from my home only a year ago and the evidence is still there to see. Homes and businesses still in either a state of repair or demolition.

Who better than Swiss Re and Alexander Verbeek to herald the warnings. Swiss Re is an undisputed expert in financial losses from climate related weather catastrophes and you have just presented admirably about climate change in a CWA panel discussion.

We are living on a tortured planet and it’s far past time we show it some love.

Thank you for being our voice.

🌻 Thank you for this writing, Alexander πŸ’―

πŸ™ Learned a lot here, πŸ“œ

US's middle name is 'Tornado' alley and I can see it getting more intense . . . .

In addition: The City of Chicago, my current city, has sued the five oil giants for climate change and then covering it up. The giants named in February are BP, Chevron, ConocoPhillips, Exxon Mobil, and Shell. The oil companies have asked the suit be moved from state to federal court. A legal expert believes the case will land in Cook County Circuit Court as a number of other cases nationwide have moved back to local venues.

I have the impression my fellow Planet activists are concerned about my November vote. A few months ago in this very space I made a public commitment to vote Dem. I have not wavered from this decision. I also vowed at that time to continue the fight against oppression and genocide. I have not wavered from this either. Please DM if you have any questions. Thank you.
