Glad you have your island escape. We all need to find physical and mental refuges in this day and age. To quote Olivia Rodrigo, “It’s brutal out here.”
It all comes back to the sea; to the beauty and mystery of it all. Once again, I turn to lyrics over 50 years old: "You're lost inside your houses; there's no time to find you now; while your walls are burning and your towers are turning, I'm gonna leave you here and try to get down to the sea somehow."
Sadly, too many of us are locked away in our houses watching while our cities burn, unwilling or perhaps powerless to make a change. I think what I want to say is: We've got to get down to the sea somehow. Together. Now.
Thank you, Sharon, there’s poetic beauty in getting down to the sea somehow. It’s where life began, where rivers end, and where people go to mourn or to heal from burnouts or breakups. It’s where I go when I lack the time for long walks in nature, to swim in summer or to get blown away in winter. The sea heals and that’s also the sentiment of the song.
Wonderful, is there a perfect photo? You would know. I nominate this one. Reminds me of dear departed friend who used the back of my body in a photo landscape, when I asked why, it was photography 101, for perspective. God, I miss her so very much. She LIVED her best life. Lessons to hold close. Came to me in the end dying and I did the best nursing of my career for her. Deciphered content of complex medical texts. On the pinnacle of my game; would never disappoint her. It’s a vulnerable time and needs all one has mentally to show up! Pleased I was able. Off topic, the photo triggered the connection. 😘
Alex, your refuge is so serene and beautiful. How lucky you are to have Mother Nature at her best
so you can return to beauty
when your thoughts become depressing and you are powerless to overcome the sorrow you feel at the catastrophes that are happening on other continents. Oh, if the world had only paid attention to the climatologists long ago.
… and then there’s the political situation we have ahead of us. If I lived on your island I’d be visiting that gorgeous spot several times a day to clear my head. .I envy you‼️ Thank you for sharing that “prize”
I know, I’m lucky. The climate treaty, the UNFCCC, is from 1992. By then, all countries in the world were convinced that we needed to tackle climate change. If we had then started a trajectory to a safe limit, it would have been so cheap and so easy. But those who earn their money on fossil fuels blocked any progress and because of them, we sacrifice the only home we have. Greed killed the planet and our kids futures.
This is a beautiful photo! I like the people in it, especially with the short summary of their movement just prior to the shutter moment. It made me realize how many photos that I take with people in the background and how many stories are playing out all around us.
Each of them will have a story to tell, and none of them knows they are the main characters in my short story, which gave them a few seconds of fame on Substack.
You do the same for us. Your words and images let us temporarily escape the painful reality. Thank you.
Thank you, Rena. Blue sky and crisp air right now on the island.
