I often return to the edge of this island to admire the twilight and watch the orange sky reflected on the water. It is a slow show of colors, changing every moment, different each time, but with a predictable dark ending.
I watch the silhouettes meeting each other in the fading light. They don’t block my view; they unknowingly enhance the scene’s beauty while silently respecting nature’s magnificence. I wait for the couple to hold hands again, but then one starts to walk away. The dog follows. They are all at even distances from each other now; I capture the moment.
These sunsets cast away the shadows of ideological battles and environmental despair, offering a moment of pure tranquility and peace. In this isolation, I can focus on beauty.
When I return to the chaos and distress of the world beyond this island’s shores, I need only to recall this coastline and these peaceful moments to remind myself that there exists a refuge where I can retreat into silence, breathe in the crisp air, wander through the dunes, and find comfort in admiring nature’s beauty.
You do the same for us. Your words and images let us temporarily escape the painful reality. Thank you.
Glad you have your island escape. We all need to find physical and mental refuges in this day and age. To quote Olivia Rodrigo, “It’s brutal out here.”
