An Alexnote sketch of this lovely town!

I’m amazed as well as delighted to see how beautifully preserved & maintained these ancient European towns are. Becoming immersed in the history of these intriguing places & exploring their past would be so exciting. The stories the old buildings could tell!

How very fitting Neptune enjoys such a prominent spot as he overlooks the sea.

Thank you for the effort in creating this amazing sketch even with your restrictions.

It’s wonderful!

It is one of those things I like about Europe: there is so much history everywhere.

I always find it fascinating (and always with envy) the continuing impressions and influence that the Roman Empire bears on the majority of Europe through architecture, public infrastructure, language, food, medicine, education, et al. The Neptune weather vane may seem innocent enough but is no doubt part of this influence.

Such a lovely town. After searching and seeing the images and reading about it on the Holland.com website along with the scant information available on Wikipedia, this looks like a wonderful destination.

In so many towns and villages are traces of Roman influence. It is even said of the village where I live on this island. The castle is said to have been built on Roman foundations, but I haven't found reliable sources for this. And yes, Zierikzee is a wonderful destination!

This looks like such a fascinating place! Great to see another Alexnote and also happy to see you've kept up a little tradition :-). Love that Neptune indicates the wind direction from the top of that tower. He could probably tell us some interesting stories.

And that street looks really lovely as well, so well-preserved and I also love that there are street names that almost every town seems to have. I don't know that much about Dutch towns, but Poststrasse/Postweg are definitely common in Switzerland. Nowadays the post office is usually long gone, but the street name remains.

In this case, the post office is still there. But, strangely, with a stone indicating it was built in 1940, as if we didn't have other things on our mind that year, perhaps it was before 10 May. (and you found the little tradition!)
