Beautiful town, thank you for sharing. Sorry that I've not been active here recently, I've been struggling with a temperature for several days that reached 39.9C. Thankfully it is coming down and I am able to eat more than one bowl of fruit in a 24 hour period!

This looks like a place to visit for sure. Loving the history. I guess it's similar all over the world, places thrive where there is water. Just saw that there is a museum about the history of Beverland in Goes.

Thank you for always including sources in Dutch. Today I learned a new word "kade". I don't usually look up words I don't understand as long as I get the context, but this one popped up so many times ;-)

Loved watching that video - it sure made me feel like I was right there. Thank you for sharing the beauty of Goes.

What an idyllic place to wander on a pleasant summer day. Thanks for sharing that video and the history. Water is needed for life but too much instead good for cities or people. Hope the Netherlands hasn’t experienced the severe flooding that is now in Belgium and Germany. Looking forward to more articles.

The flooding wasn't as large scale in the Netherlands as in Germany and Belgium but the southeastern province of Limburg has also been affected. We are all in this together, the impacts of the climate crisis can hit each of us, so we all need to act and we all need to help each other.

An intriguing 'way back when' account and todays video Alexander! It tells and shows so much of what life has been in Goes and what it is today. I have spend some time living in marinas, mooring in slips and hanging out on buoys or anchor as a river rat. Traveling from marina to marina. Seeing this cozy harbor video made me want to step back on board, and sail on the Dutch waterways. . . from Island to Island (-: ⛵

That is the best way to see the Netherlands. I used to work as a sailing instructor during the summers. At night we all slept in the boats, and all night there was the continuous sound of the ropes hitting the masts, like cicadas on the water.

Interesting, I hadn’t thought of Greece yet but that may be caused by the weather. Actually, now that I am thinking of it, a memory pops up from some ten years ago. I spent two weeks on Thasos, an island in the northeast of Greece. One day, while driving around the island on the coastal road, I stopped in a village and was chatting with a guy who owned a souvenir shop. This was 2009, and Greece was in a deep economic crisis; he experienced a difficult time. To my surprise, he spoke a bit of Dutch. He told me that he had lived many years in Goes, in a street connecting the central market square with the harbor. Funny how stories connect!
