PFAS and Politics: A Tale of Corporate Interests vs. Public Health. At state and federal levels, examples in the news from the past 24 hours expose which party in the US cares most about its citizens and which party cares most about its corporate donors.
Thank you for writing about forever chemicalsโa highly unreported topic!! Last year we at Project Censored selected โForever Chemicalsโ in Rainwater a Global Threat to Human Health" as one of the Top unreported stories of 2023 for our annual publication, State of the Free Press.
I think Pro Publica is the only newsroom to have done any stories. Maybe 6-7 since 2018. NPR and Vox once or twice. The Guardian the other day. That's probably it. Not good.
Thank you for this, Alexander! Voting Democrat certainly gets you closer to living in a democracy.
I love water. The issue of clean water is of great interest. Many years ago I purchased a portable filtration system because of what comes from our faucets. Filtered water alone is what I drink and use for cooking. My pets drink filtered water. A parrot was once part of my life and I learned non-stick cookware used at high temperature released a gas which could kill a bird. My friends and I go to restaurants with vegan and organic options and some have their own gardens. We have to be our own advocates. My progressive mayor is working on a plan to remove all lead pipes hopefully without eliminating all the heritage trees.

Itโs staggering to think one political party is so greedy and obsessed with donor funding they are willing to sell out their constituents who put them in office.
What a revealing essay and how important that it reaches as many people as possible.
The party in question has abdicated every responsibility that leadership requires.
The 2024 Presidential election is more important than words can express.
Thank you, Alexander, for looking after us and reporting American Issues and solutions. PFAS are so very toxic; Renaโs love of safe water is exemplary. A portable filtration system sounds like a great investment in my own personal health especially since my water comes from a community well which at one time reported quality issues but none in recent years. My interest in safe fibers in clothing is one I would like to write about. But I believe the UN Water Conference put out a book on non plastic fibers and better clothing manufacturing practices that would also reduce water waste which is needed by 2030 at latest. Your neighbors appreciate your interest and reporting on our issues in America. ๐บ๐ธ
PS Gen Z expects a Biden win handily in 2024. The young people are our best and most ambitious hope for long term change in the world they will inherit.
I have a strong feeling of dรฉjร vu - I came across these chemicals when looking into BPA-free plastics. Turns out they were just using BPB etc. instead. So, technically they were not lying. And as you said "they" don't care about the wellfare of people. Money talks.
Also dรฉjร vu regarding the sludge used as fertilizer. We can filter out microplastics at water treatment plants. And then - you know what's coming - we use the sludge as fertilizer. Makes total sense.
Thanks for talking about forever chemicals and water. This reminds me that I need to register for this year's world water run.

Exactly, Rena. It speaks to the control that fossil fuel wealth has over US policies.

Mina's organization? If so, I have that. Thank you so much for thinking about it!
Love your journal on this! Thank you!
