What wonderful news!

“This resolution, spearheaded by Vanuatu and Pacific Islander youth, had over 130 member states as co-sponsors and was adopted with cheers and applause. Vanuatu's Prime Minister, Ishmael Kalsakau, underlined that the United Nations had "decided to leave aside differences and work together to tackle the defining challenge of our times, climate change."

Imagine the joyous scene when this was announced!

Meanwhile, in Montana 13 young people have sued their state arguing that its support of fossil fuels violates the state constitution. It’s coming to trial in June.

Finally, the world is awakening to the climate crisis and we do have real hope!

Truly a win for Climate Justice!

Climate is beginning to win!

💚 What a historic day: this morning, @KlimaSeniorin stated their case to the 17 judges of the @ECHR_CEDH Grand Chamber (European court) setting out the strong evidence of vulnerability of elder women to climate impacts and Switzerland’s failure to protect them from harm. I read that another European country was also condemned in the past by the same court !

This added to the good news you report about makes this end of march 2023 memorable for the planet and its protection.

It seems like FINALLY things are happening. I remember reading about that case brought against a German company in The Great Melt. Seemed like a good way to go. Such good news.

And I'm loving the climate seniors who are bringing their cases against Switzerland to Strasbourg. Had only heard about the Swiss fraction - Aida also mentioned them in her comment - but wasn't aware of climate seniors in other countries. Such a good thing. Why shouldn't grandparents fight for their grandkids to be left with a safe planet to live.

All in all good developments. At least it feels like it. I hope they keep coming.

Getting my ICJ (civil) and ICC (criminal) confused.......so sorry! However, my country 🇺🇸 does not participate in either. As a citizen of the 🌎 I am not happy about that. 🥲

I would enjoy the optimism more if the USA 🇺🇸 had voted for the resolution but we simply did not vote. Did not oppose; just did not vote. I wonder if this is related in any way to our failure to sign the treaty that set up the ICC or if that court is irrelevant in this case. Other items in the news USA 🇺🇸 (reference Reuters) were about the leases of drilling rights auctioned in the Gulf of Mexico to Big Oil for both carbon capture and exploration for more extraction.

Apparently as a result of the Inflation Reduction Act compromises to oil hungry congressmen! I continue to be confounded by action PACS that paint the climate picture in the USA as horrendous while I trust Biden to work with the legislators and courts as he can to make progress here on the CLIMATE AGENDA. As the second largest emitter behind China’s coal, we bear huge responsibility to right the ship of climate action but getting through the noise of what’s really happening while the former guy and our very loud mouth MTG suck all the oxygen out of MSM reporting is challenging at best. One minute I am on target and the next the “indictments” yes or no and the never quiet MAGA bullhorns have me completely befuddled. When all is said and done, this outcome was wonderful for the small island nations especially and I am happy for them! 🌍🕊️
