Music touches the depths of our souls and can let our spirits soar with joy, comfort us in times of sadness and strengthen us beyond expectations. The touching examples included here are heartbreaking as lives are torn apart by a brutality that exceeds imagination.
Youโve briefly stepped into their lives to share the stories of people determined to prevail and have profoundly related the horror they are enduring. The article youโve crafted makes us reflect on how we would meet such a fate and itโs a very uncomfortable thought. Brilliant writing and illustrations.
I really wonder what I would do. A thought that also comes up when reading about WWII. So many brave people, and many of them didn't even knew they were brave.
I agree and have thought the same. But for the circumstances of fate, we could be these people. They are just like us with the same hopes, dreams and lives. I relate to them strongly and wonder if I have a fraction of their bravery. Same with WWII.
Wise commentary, as per usual, and many thanks for distinguishing Biden's words re. Putin, not Russians, as well as noticing the different attitudes of the current and past US presidents!
Re. music, I am sharing this video by a South African musician who often mixes world music with hip hop and rap beats (as well as creates his own with his band, Kiffness). This is pretty cool:

As it was at the beginning of the Covid pandemic with people around the world singing and playing instruments from their apartment windows & terraces, the power, hope and inspiration of music is again lifting souls in Ukraine and elsewhere. I admire a German pianist, Davide Martello, who traveled to Ukraine with his modified piano to play for the Ukrainian people. After the George Floyd murder, he and his piano traveled to that city to help soothe and unify. Alex, this was a really lovely reminder of the importance of music. Thank you!

Beautiful music, yet heartbreaking at the same time! Iโm glad you are helping to chronicle these times and keep us all connected.
Thank you Louisa, yes it is heartbreaking. I find it difficult to read the news
