I wish more people would share these two heroes' brave and independent thinking. Imagine how they were under fire, in battle stress, and still cared about others, while today's blind followers of populist strongmen sit in their home's relaxed surroundings, thoughtlessly consuming the news. I don't think that more critical thinking is too much to ask.
Thanks for sharing the stories of those 2 brave, young, German men (boys really). Their actions in the face of extreme stress and danger are a tribute to their humanity. As you rightly stated, we need more critical thinking and a belief in our common humanity despite the circumstances we find ourselves in.
An inspiring article honoring the goodness of individuals even when they must step outside the role assigned to them and risk their own lives.
While I donโt disagree with the supposition of critical thinking or ability to think for oneโs self, I think additionally these individuals and these acts are based on selfless humanity and personal character. A strong sense of right and wrong, whether learned behavior or inborn integrity, makes the difference. The actions taken here seem to be without premeditation, simply spontaneous actions of innate goodness.
Those who donโt have it will never understand. Weโve seen prime examples of both sorts.
Alex, thank you for bringing attention to these two ordinary yet exceptional human beings. We never know how a simple gesture or action can change another personโs life, change our life. Hopefully we all will be heroic in our own ways, in our own unique lives.
Inspiring storiesโthank you! If only more people were willing to step up, speak out, and take a stand for what is right, even in the face of repercussions... but it's a big ASK, I know. Too often when people speak out, they get "cancelled," fired from their jobs, socially ostracized, blacklisted, etc.
These polarized times are fueled by algorithms in the online spaces, and for the many who are susceptible to propaganda silos and extremist echo chambers, the tactics work. In the US, the right wing dominates almost every sector; and so I think it's up the rest of us to join forces and create a stronger and cohesive presence. Thanks to you, Alexander, and to everyone who's doing their part!
Thank you for sharing their stories.
YES! to critical thinking. And YES! to humanity.
