The serene tranquility of your day and island inspire envy for those who across the ocean are in the midst of this political maelstrom born of Trumpian corruption that has overtaken an entire political party.

You describe an idyllic life on the beautiful island where a sensible country and citizens have embraced an admirable culture of consciousness my country can only dream about.

I admit to watching a part of the debate last night until the insanity of Ramaswamy drove me away. There’s no one on that stage that can realistically be considered as presidential material. A collage of weakness. While the worst of the lot lies in wait to claim a spot as the leader of a pitiful group.

Yet, today, he’s presently on his way to arrest in Georgia. What a truly tragic commentary for my country.

Enjoy your distance from this madness. Relive better days on Camino before the devastating fires and listen to the dove’s coos.

Please let go of any "remorse for enjoying the tranquility of your island haven." It would do no one, lease of all you, any good to suffer. You have, and continue to, impart your knowledge on our most pressing issues, which appears to be your raison d’être. So, we need you to be healthy and strong. Let your island provide restoration and serenity while you can.

Watching Trump travel with his motorcade to Fulton County Courthouse to surrender for processing in RICO case; I am reminded of O.J. Simpson traveling down the highway to see his mother before inevitable surrender for trial for killing his wife, Nicole Wallace Simpson. He was, after much ado, acquitted, a miscarriage of Justice it seems in retrospect. We have HOPE as we must that Trump will be incarcerated for his attempts to overthrow our government and are working on Constitutional remedies to prohibit him from office. There are no outstanding contenders for the GOP nomination; it is my fervent wish that our dear “Sleepy Joe Biden” be voted into a second term to “finish” the job he started as he would like. There are many of us who support his excellence in foreign relations among many national issues and most assuredly more extensive efforts to mitigate climate change, arriving at long last to the subject of your newsletter! All of your supporters here envy your island retreat with church bells and dear Luna offering peace in your retreat for a bit from the all consuming world of terrors. We must all find sanctuary when we can to continue this important work for the planet 🌎. Enjoy!

One thousand miles away, my mockingbird friend would sing me to sleep and wake me just before sunrise. Much preferred to the cacophony of Faux News' special presentation. Having long refused them entry into my environment, I rely on Twitter pals to keep me informed. There was nothing new to learn from that embarrassing group of opportunists. My friends and I will continue to spread the truth to those who will listen. Many do, in fact, listen. Our world is indeed in trouble but there are many islands of hope. We have to believe. 🌻

We need windows. Through them we can feel the call of the world, its deafening roar so intensely infused with pros and cons, so in need of appeasement, so restless about probable justice and random truths. But through them, we also can breathe the stillness of thoughts submerged in peaceful laziness and the waiving melancholy of the yesterday. By now, between the blank spaces, steaming coffee curls up in my hands, and the morning leaves almost probable omens on the windowsill.

I practice Yoga. One thing I have learned when troubled is the wave is not the sea. The tossing will pass. It is natural for me to stay close to shore when fears arise when the safest place is in the deep. Float. Let the water hold you up. Then let go.

My legal background tells me there is no way Donald Trump stays out of prison and yet Americans are willing to be his human shield, to provide cover for his liabilities. That is the only reason he is running for President. Mug shot, bail bonds, RICO -- organized crime -- charges can boggle the mind and assault the natural order.

From the deep, I try to do the right thing one thing at a time. I try to lean into fear and let the tossing and crashing pass. I believe the Rule of Law/Rule of Justice is alive and well. For me it remains a constant.

I like the metta bhavana prayer: "May all beings everywhere be happy. May they be healthy. May they be at peace. May they be free." I say some form of this blessing everyday as I find a tranquil space in my desert island far from the madding crowd.

Enjoy your beautiful island retreat and now Paris. Stay far from the madness across the pond. Thank you and namaste, Alex.

I'm going to focus on the positives of life in Burgh-Haamstede, on your morning routine of writing and on watching Luna. I always enjoy reading about that. I can't bear to watch the news at the moment.

I can clearly see the effects of our changing climate right here. After a heatwave that lasted about two weeks (I think) we had crazy thunderstorms all night last night. I love a good thunderstorm, but they have become unpredictable and that makes them dangerous. Major clean-up going on at the moment.

As for US politics, I better not say what I think. We have a completely different culture when it comes to politics and I'm glad we do. It's nowhere near perfect, but I can't imagine what it must feel like to live in the US right now if you're not a Trumpist.

Enjoy your travels. Europe is a great place for it. Oh, and we will need more Luna pictures - I think you realize that. Thanks for sharing your thoughts. I enjoyed reading this.

I must limit my thoughts about your, yet again, spot on post about the climate. I agree with every word in your post, Alex. As for Ramaswamy (and I'm going to be nice about this!): He is the most naive person (and lately there have been a lot of them!) I have ever known to "apply" for the position of President of the United States. He, like Trump, believes that one can govern a country of 340+M people with possibly 170+M different opinions like a private company. Most, not all, politicians today actually believe we work for them not the other way around. I have watched Presidential debates since 1962 (Kennedy/Nixon) for my civics assignment as a freshman in high school. This latest debacle, seen around the globe via Fox News(?) proved that Ramaswamy hasn't a clue about leading this country. My question is would you hire a doctor who had not attended med school? Ludicrous question - right? Then why would you vote for someone who has never held public office to make decisions that would affect your life just as completely as hiring a person who has no education nor experience as your personal physician?
