A wonderfully written piece worthy of The Guardian or New York Times.

It seems global crises keep pushing the IPCC Report with its monumentally ominous news to the background when we need all hands on deck. This horrific attack on Ukraine has taken center stage as we all suffer with the people of Ukraine. But does it take a devastating war to wake us up to slavish dependence on fossil fuels? Dr. Svitlana Krakovska Is right. If we approached the climate crisis with the same unity and solidarity as the people of Ukraine, we can make strides in winning the climate war.

The photo depicting Ukraine and renewables in one photo is wonderful to see.

Well done!

Thank you Alexander for your informed assessment of this crisis the world is watching and reacting to. It is extremely tragic the loss of life and homeland for the Ukrainian people, and the pressure it puts on those seeking to protect those fleeing the destruction. If there is a ray of hope, as 'The Planet' reports, it is that the crisis proves the need to urgently transition from fossil fuels to renewable energies. A friend shared the quote "When I despair, I remember that all through history the way of truth and love have always won. There have been tyrants and murderers, and for a time, they can seem invincible, but in the end, they always fail. Think of it always". Gandhi

Itโ€™s very distressing how this has all unfolded and I agree. Urgent actions need to taken in order to boost investment in renewable energy. Progress is being made. I notice more EV cars on the road here in the U.K. now and we are one of them! Our EV is great and at a time when fuel prices are at an all time high, we are grateful. Though the cost of electricity has also gone up.

EVs is indeed a positive story, but on others we have decades of work ahead. How do we for instance reduce gas for heating houses. In The Netherlands it would be hard to find a house that is not warmed by gas, the challenge is enormous. On the other hand: when the challenge seems too big, that's often when mankind can perform miracles.

Yes very true. Itโ€™s really just the opening chapter of the new rule book. Weโ€™ve many challenges to overcome in order to unwrap decades of dependence on fossil fuels. I fear we donโ€™t have an awful lot of time and itโ€™s encouraging to see people stepping up to the challenge.

If we can get rid of fossil fuels which may never happen 100% but letโ€™s get closer and closer. Then we may see the end of authoritarianism, fascism. Who knows.

The pandemic has made the majority of the human race a better species. It goes to show as the entire world rallies to support a country being bullied by its neighbour in such a vile, evil manner.

Dear Alexander, could you please point me to the Danish PM's announcement "that the main parliamentary parties had agreed that Denmark should become independent of Russian gas..."? I have not been able to find it. Tak!

Thank you Dawna, I am healthy and safe in Ottawa, but the thought of the 44 millions or Ukrainians that are not is such a deeply sad feeling. Having followed the impacts of man-made climate change (yes, it's mainly men that ignored the warnings, it's international women's day) I have seen thousands of pictures of people suffering from droughts, floods, and extreme weather. But these disasters were never deliberately created to let people suffer. That's were the horror of Ukraine comes in: shooting indiscriminately at civilians and their housing is a whole different level of man-made disaster.

There were so many important issues of concern, then the unprovoked horror of the Putin leading invasion of Ukraine. He is a madman. I do love how people worldwide are gathering in support of Zelenskyy and the Ukrainian people.

I agree, and the Republican motivations for banning Russian oil have nothing to do with the environment, nor with the suffering of the innocent people in Ukraine, nor with international law. Follow the money is a good starting point.
