As the first subscriber to The Planet newsletter, I have never for a moment regretted my subscription. Every article I have read has been a worthy read. Some have been alarming with scary climate news and warnings that affect everyone on the planet. But we need to know it. Others are unabashed affection and praise for our magnificent planet. Some are fanciful vignettes that delight the reader with magic and folklore. Even others take the reader on journeys to places they may never have the pleasure of seeing in person. With each, extraordinary photography accompanies the eloquently written stories that take the reader to a level reminiscent of legendary writers.

If this isn’t enough, Alexander Verbeek is a journalist of unimpeachable ethics, trustworthy and honest to the max. You can believe what he tells you. He relates history with accuracy and intrigue, better than any history class, and often with bits of humor tossed in.

I often compare these writings with what was once found in respected periodicals like New York Times or Washington Post but now closer to The Guardian. I highly recommend a subscription to The Planet. It’s a bargain and you will thank yourself for subscribing. Happy reading.

Thank you, Lizzie, for these very kind words! I will do my best to keep writing like this. You have been a great supporter since day 1, some day in March 2021, when the world was in lockdown and when there was no public for public speakers to speak to.

It’s always very interesting and informative to read your articles, Alex! 👌

The themes of your newsletters are often very varied, depending on your inspiration, your personal subjects of reflection, but ultimately they all bring us back, by different paths, to the essential question of the sustainability of our planet, to that of safeguarding its beauty, where we can draw our strength, our balance to pursue our personal path, and and of course to the political and economic issues of protecting our wonderful natural environment!

Thank you 🙏 for your publications, your personal investments, your expertise and your deep convictions 💯👏

I am really happy to be one of your subscribers and to be able to read your articles regularly!🙋‍♀️

Governance is especially high on my mind these days in the US! I like that you have the three main threads and do cover a variety of topics to mix things and help us all stay engaged. 😊

It was also a self-protection against constantly writing about the madness of no action on climate change while all the evidence and solutions were available. Long walks in nature and writing about it keep me sane and give me the energy and motivation to talk about the threats. Governance is the pivotal point in the whole story. Future historians will scratch their heads when trying to explain to their readers how we got into this desperate situation; it will be an ugly story of greed, corruption, and incompetence.

Very pleased to have discovered this, my first Substack, that has only evolved to the magic of today, with extraordinary photos, Alex notes, articles, graphs, history, art and architecture, museums, the Camino twice, and real politics offensive sometimes to the USA (rightfully so I regret to say) as we look ahead to tomorrow’s debate for the presidency of 2024. Your composition could not be more informative nor your journeys more virtual travel for which I am especially grateful. Now I have two questions today: under which of the new tabs will you appear in Substacks new scheme or order of topics? And please let me know that your precious Luna 😽 is with you and well in Oslo. I looked for you under climate but you were not there. Of course, you arrive as a subscription but thinking of how others might find you? 😘

Thanks for the kind words Judith. And thanks for reminding me of that it’s impossible to find me in the growing Substack universe. I have no idea how people can find me, I don’t think there is a category that I fit in. So I rely on word of mouth promotion but that is not very effective. I’m amazed to see how fast other accounts grow. I suspect more people would like to receive The Planet but they just never hear about it. Luna is with me in Oslo but she doesn’t like this small apartment. I think she misses the garden on the island. It’s sad to see her retreating to under my bed most of the day.

I see more than one heading you might fit. “Climate and Environment” but there are others as well. Why not go for several? So sad Luna is having difficulty adjusting. I am forcing myself to put down the iPad and give more attention to my girls. They actually stopped eating one very busy day and I paid attention. They appreciated the extra time I gave them and normalized quickly. Poor girl, missing her routines. Sending her hugs and cuddles. ❤️😽
