The history of living with cats is a long and fascinating one. Cats were first domesticated in the Near East, a process that some researchers estimate started up to 12,000 years ago. Ancient Egyptians had a great reverence for cats, and they were one of the first societies to keep them as pets. Even accidentally killing a cat was punishable by death, and when cats died, they were mummified with a grand ceremony.
Your fascination and history of cats is so very entertaining, informative. Although my mini ID photo is of my senior dog Max, there are so many cats photos I could have chosen from. Iβve had a mix of two senior cats and dog, Max, for several years, a PURFECT family. For many years before I have had many more as my own pets as well as those in foster care awaiting adoption; too many to count. Mothers with baby kittens, sickly newborns needing care to recover
and find loving homes, on and on. Itβs been my passion in retirement after caring for humans in my career. Sadly, we have a huge problem in the SE United States of overpopulation and abandonment as a result of absent community legal standards and must transport many to partners in New England & Canada for homing. Posts on social media of those in need always bring tears to my eyes as their personalities are so very loving and unique. I remain heartbroken for those living on the streets never knowing the love of a permanent home. Luna is a very lucky girl as are you to have found each other.β€οΈπ½ποΈ
Our pets mean so much and add enormously to our lives as treasured companions and family members. Luna is adorable and I fully relate to your feeling for her.
I smiled all the way to the end while reading this. Thank you! I grew up with cats and can relate to the sentiment. Lucky that you and Luna found each other. What a lovely tribute to Luna and cats in general. And those pictures you take of her. She's such a beauty.
Yes, a bond and so much to be said. For me, paws of affection running through all seasons inside the heart in threads of loving loneliness: grey silk softening the silence, sleeping memories of the sun floating in ponds of liquid amber. Purring caresses then and forever. Gio was his name.
Alex, have you read When Cats Reigned Like Kings by Georgie Anne Geyer? She was a political journalist who was adopted by her cat in DC. She was so entranced by him that she ended up traveling to Mid East, Europe and Asia and thanks to her political connections, was able to gain access to some extraordinary sacred cat places.
Iβm happy Luna and you found each other πΎπ
Appreciate your heart warming words about Luna. Given her unique markings it's telling why you were attracted to her, and she is fortunate for your companionship. Assuming she accompanies you on your many travels, this would broaden her life. I've found a new past time to stimulate and broaden my cat, Prima's daily experience, that being taking her with collar and leash for walks through my apartment building and exercising her by expecting her to climb the long stairway. A joy for us both, as you surely know with your Luna.
That idea made me smile. I once tried to walk with Luna with collar and leash but she is too independent-minded to be told where to go. Nor did she get the idea that I had a reason to walk her on the lawn near the airport before a long flight. After some playing with the leash she went back into the cat-basked without having taken the time to do what I had hoped she would do. But she manages long flights surprisingly well.
I am so happy you made LUNA the star...told you! The relationship humans have to cats is indeed special...I plan to "listen" to the post tonight. Merci, a bientot,
My mother and my sister fed stray cats and dogs in my neighborhood. They used to wait for the food outside our gate. I remember my mom struggling to walk trying not to trip over them. Cats cheered the kibbles with a choir of meows and dogs with tail wagging. We had a street cat that stopped a fight between two huge dogs once!! After that my mom called him Al Capone.
I, instead, have always been a dog person. You have to admit you canβt wrestle with cats, they would send you to the ER.
Beautiful shots: first and third photos with the shadows, the 4th has a perfect composition, the subject to the side, minimalistic, completely horizontal and the black of Lunaβs head makes it a perfect focal point, but the 6th is interesting and intriguing with that old chest. Iβm dying to open it. Dutch secrets, I suspectπ
These photosβthe lighting, the shadows, and of course, Luna, the star (or should I say "moon") of the storyβare gorgeous! The quick history of cats, and the link to obesity too, are quite enlightening. I'm glad Luna is healthy and of normal weight! :)

Oh that is so kind that you take care of these cats and dogs. Thanks for being there for them!
This is lovely!

A very interesting prΓ©cis youβve given on cats and their extensive history, much I never knew.
The photos are wonderful and the camera loves her.
Clearly, you and Luna were meant to be! π₯°
Thanks Lizzie, yes I guess we are

That chest has a 70-year old family history. Who knows I might write about it some day!
