The cafe in Porto is indeed Majestic. The glamorous cultural elite from Paris was a reference for Portuguese culture in the early 1920s when it opened its doors. I feel the charm of "La Belle Époque" when I step in.
That café looks like it has some stories to tell too. It's gorgeous and all that attention to detail. Not just the café's interior, but also yours in writing and taking pictures. Thanks for sharing. I'd have felt completely out of place there - I'm sure. Posh places and my small town upbringing don't mix well.
Totally still interested in your overdose of art from last year & Vermeer. And walks in the Netherlands - yes, please. A friend from IG took me on a walk in the Hoge Veluwe last year. She had mapped out a route for us. I was amazed at how sandy it was when we were nowhere near the sea. Also, it was not nearly as flat as I'd pictured it. I'd love to read more about walking in the Netherlands.
"This time, I locate the Camino detox at two moments: sitting on the rocks on the edge of the Ocean near Muxía, watching the waves crashing on the shoreline, and then there is this second moment of sitting in restored elegance with low jazz tones on the background." You have a remarkable sense of the sounds around us and how they affect us. Quite musical. And I also love your sense of humor. Your writing makes me think and smile, and this is a powerful combination!!
Beautiful cafe for a detox coffee. I love the Art Nouveau facade and interior decorations, and so glad to see when it is preserved at places like the Majestic. Thanks for sharing and enjoy your reacclimation to a post-Camino routine.
Absolutely! A Camino detox of the finest sculpture, architecture, use of mirrors, marble, chandeliers, ceiling decor, too many elements to enumerate. Yes, I could feel very much at home here in my younger active days. I’m still reminded of my favorite home with the small balcony outside the window, and the interior space for an exquisite indoor garden I tended with much care. And my antique French mirror with the gryphons on each side. Days of excess and eccentricity. The new world arriving so quickly will not allow for such indulgence so we must appreciate the Majestic Cafe in all her glory today.
Dare I say, 😂🤣, you look like a rugged, scruffy, TALL, Dutchman with an agenda. Plan to keep the hard earned beard or trim a little for those TED talks that come around from time to time? I’m not poking fun, just a little humor while fighting to maintain our freedoms and Democracy after poking the Beast! See you next post, anywhere I can find you.

Yes, the attention to detail. I would love stories and photos of the Vermeer as well.
Simply elegant, this charming cafe and the writing.
Farewell, Camino.
New adventures and the world await. Enjoy it all.

That’s so nice to read 😊. Thank you 🙏

Even the color of wall spaces complement what I remember feeling in restoring wooden antiques, the patina. Freshly oiled and glorious.
Love the Camino Detox 🙂 and would always appreciate a Memories Tour.
I just organized 8000 pictures on my phone. Talk about a memory tour ;-). I'm sure Alex's would be more sophisticated than mine, though.
Also, just noticed the best selfie!

Wow, your use of the world "elegance" was not overstated!
