"Take it easy" one of my favorite road trip songs. But yes there's not much to do in Winslow, but if you ever want to stand on a corner there let me know ahead of time and I'll drive slowly by in a flat bed ford 😉 😅.
Another good one would be Carefree Highway, which I've driven on many times, and always have to sing the song when I'm on it 😅. I think you should visit the St Louis zoo, nothing like the American Midwest. I'm a midwesterner by birth born inTopeka Kansas about 300 miles west of St Louis. How far is those Cicadas go I find it kind of sad that they spend so many years underground just to die a few weeks after coming out into the sun, but such is the circle of life.
Do come back to MO in the summer when the Cicadas sing! Come in a year when there is a super hatch, it is truly unforgettable. One summer (for a very short period) an ice cream shop on the University of MO campus made a cicada ice cream!! Really the only reason to be in MO in the summer is to hear the cicadas and see lightening bugs! P.S. the St Louis Zoo aviary is remarkable.
Whenever the 1904 fair in St. Louis is mentioned, I think about Judy Garland’s film, Meet me in St. Louis, which was a backdrop. NYC preserved some of the aspects from the 1964 world’s fair but not the Trylon and Perisphere of the 1939 one.
Cicadas are a harbinger of summer here and we usually hear their song by July 4th. It seems the hotter the day, the more they sing. We get them every year but the 17 year cycle makes them even more numerous. Guess we will have lots of them this year.

My bucket list seem similar to yours. I put suggestions on it from people and places that I come across in books, songs etc. that seem interesting. Discovering new places, hearing stories from the people who live there. Part of the reason I like to at least understand the language of countries I travel to. And who know cicadas were this interesting. Love how linked it all together.
(Sth new just went on my bucket list - there is a café in Schaffhausen called Zikade. I just have to go there post Covid. This is excatly how my bucket list grows.)

Cool, I looked the Cicadas up, being curious about Colorado
And ah, yes, I just learned that there are also Cicadas in Colorado but they have a different biological lifecycle. Similar but different in timing . . .

Cikadas are fascinating! I live in the eastern U.S. and remember seeing them for the first time and wondering what kind of creature this is. They are quite large, almost the size of a humming bird. The sound is amazing and even though it can be loud, it sounds magical.
The Unisphere in Queens, NYC. From the New York World's Fair 1964-1965. What ever happened to the World's Fairs. They introduced the Ford Mustang at the NY World's Fair.
I enjoy your writings though a little long. Zoos are prisons that rip emotional and vulnerable baby elephants from their mothers and herds. Then they put them on display for capitalism's sake without enough space to get proper exercise. They die very young in captivity.. This to me is so evil and so wrong that it cancels out any good they might do. I am looking forward to the singing cicadas.
In Michigan, there seemed to be lots of cicadas, regardless of brood. I remember them more in late summer, they greeted me home form London three years running. I’d sit on the upstairs front porch, (my house was in the Spanish style, lots of arches and porches), anyway, I’d sit on the upper front porch sorting through some of my London stuff, listening to the cicadas with their electric mating sounds. Your writing helps my memory. Writing back helps my writing. I’m very grateful, you must know that by now. Thanks, Alex
