After more than five weeks of non-stop writing, I tried something else for today: while walking in a forest near Ottawa, I stopped for speaking a short message on my iPhone. You find it in this four-and-a-half-minute video, and it is followed by just a few pictures and video shots. One is of an eastern ribbon snake. A species that has in Ontario the status of βspecial concern.β But it may just as well have been one of a few types of garter snakes. The best way to distinguish them is to check for a small white crescent in front of the eye. That was hard to see from my position, especially since I had the impression that both of us were not too eager to get better acquainted.
I would love to hear if you would like a video like this once in a while or prefer me to strictly focus on the writing.
I wish you all a beautiful Sunday.

What a wonderful idea to video some of your messages, especially when you are in a beautiful natural setting. Youβve stepped into your usual text to speak directly about perils we face with climate change & ghg emissions, the topics to which youβve dedicated years of work. There has been much controversy about Americaβs climate announcement this week but youβre right that in three months the Biden administration has made strides in climate above the the destruction of the previous four years. There must be greater commitment in so many areas but from what weβve seen in this brief time, I feel enormously encouraged. Looking forward to more great videos from you.
I like these type of presentations. They remind me of home and the hours I spent as a kid tromping through the fields, lots, rivers. I especially liked the one you did a couple years back where you were walking through the Dutch Mountains.
