Last week, Andrea Weckerle from the Ready Living Podcast interviewed me. In the one-hour podcast, she asked me about a wide range of topics many of you will recognize as recurring themes in my newsletter.

We discussed my journeys along the Camino de Santiago in 2022 and 2023. You may remember my writing and videos about these pilgrimages and my stories about the pilgrim community during challenging environmental conditions. I searched for a break from my work on climate change, but instead, I experienced unprecedented heatwaves and forest fires with climate change’s dirty fingerprints all over them.
Our conversation then shifted to my work on planetary security and government responses to climate-related threats, including connections between climate change, global security, and migration and the role of climate diplomacy in addressing these challenges.

The conversation also touched on broader geopolitical issues, including the importance of American democracy in global stability and historical parallels to current political developments. We also spoke about my transition from diplomat to my present work, including my social media presence and public understanding of complex global issues.
Throughout the interview, other aspects that readers of this newsletter will recognize were raised, like my use of photography, historical connections, and balancing my worries about timely and effectively addressing global challenges with maintaining optimism for the future.
I hope you will enjoy listening to the podcast; there are many options to hear the interview:

I often feel a strange disconnect from reality. The world that I write about is in deep trouble, while I am experiencing a beautiful, crisp, sunny day in Oslo, Norway.
I really enjoyed listening to this interview. Such a wide variety of topics, each of them interesting.
One of the things I enjoyed most was listening as you spoke about certain things that seemed to excite you.
I could tell the Planetary Security project is a source of pride, as it should be.
It was a joy to listen and learn more about you and your experiences.
That was a superb podcast. You covered a wide array of topics starting with The Camino and addressing planetary security, migration, international solidarity and diplomacy, climate and pollution, photography. As always well-spoken and engaging. The interviewer, Andrea Weckerle was thorough, asking in-depth questions and allowing for your thoughtful answers.
