It is a story about resilience that transcends generations. We will need heroism and ingenuity as much as more examples of unity that defies adversity. Worldwide, the sea has not given up on its ambitions to conquer the land; rising sea levels in combination with fiercer storms will surely test our capability to adapt, especially in times where we have shown again and again to ignore scientists' warnings to stop feeding more carbon to the climate monster.
What a lovely community with much tradition and history to define it. The coming together of like minded individuals in their villages, states, and our nation at large will either break (if denied) or bring us together as but one nation in a world of nations in trouble from cascading crises, the most damaging of course the failure to address climate mitigation while our leaders in Congress joust about impeaching Biden for which there is no evidence of wrongdoing
while he goes about his business of governance daily almost exclusively addressing his many accomplishments thus far in his presidency in addition to looming events of the day. The saddest thing of all of course is the media’s role in providing fuel to Trump’s mugshot (absurd) and 24/7 coverage of the ongoing trials, the noise growing louder by the day appeasing the CEO’s of the media outlets need for ratings and profit above all else. The coming 14 months in the country we landed in at birth (excepting those dreaming immigrants of course) are going to be full of grandstanding and outrageous stunts by the parties to control election 2024, the defining moment for democracy going forward versus fascism. There will be no peace for the weary nor comfort in community. I decided on a brief outing to the doctor today to declare my colors and exhibit courage, wearing my treasured Biden tee shirt. My kind, Black gentleman caretaker was actually concerned for the quality of healthcare I might receive taking a bold stand in a blood red Republican State. Damn the torpedoes; the war for Democracy reigns.❤️🇺🇸🌎🕊️
Superb storytelling by the wonderful wordsmith yet again. Biggs was sentenced to 17 years today. Whether a 100 year old oak tree or a potato barge, there are no coincidences. 🌻
Wow... beautiful demonstration of the dangerousness of our situation and very gripping, touching plea by the example of the past, these courageous men (so far from the issues of power) and solely motivated by the security of their future and of their future generations!👌
Thanks much for this share 🙏
And what quality writing, Alex!
Bravo 👏
We have much to learn from the past, from the history of men who had a community objective.
Our societies now based on power, money, individualism …
unfortunately no longer react as before... it is all the more difficult for those who fight for the adoption of practices commensurate with the risks {** } that the problem is global...
{** " probabilities" or rather "almost realized risks"}
The scale of decisions and investments has changed, it is in terms of policies and powers that countries react and no longer in terms of community of men united to ensure the future of humanity, of the earth...
What impresses me the most today is that it seems to me that there are :
-as many internal causes of a possible global decline (political conflicts, dramatic economic situations, hungry populations, etc.)
- and as there are external causes: wars, instability of certain stated , and of course this coming profound change in the climate and therefore in our living conditions in a future that we see approaching.
What will the conjunction of all these events produce when each country only sees in front of its own door and according to its own interests...?
So glad you detoured to Colijnplaat today to share this little village whose history should make it far less obscure. Imagine the villagers holding back the sea! What an astounding feat that is, worthy of a movie, especially when the tragedy was so profound nearby.
You’re right to draw comparison of the Stand by, Boys! and how that command was given under vastly different circumstances. A tale of two countries with admiration for only one.
So much irony that the state led by the cheerleader for ‘climate hoaxism’ was devastated by weather fueled by the very factor he denies and ridicules. A tragedy for so many.
Colijnplaat is proof that all hope ‘is not lost once we recognize the existential risks of a threat. We can successfully work together to protect our cities, lands, and our loved ones.’ Wise words of hope. Thank you.

Continue your bravery, Judith. We never know who we might influence with our messages and living by example ❤
Bless you! 🧐 (me today, funny!)

I loved reading this one and enjoyed every word.
