How wonderful it must have felt to be back on your island. And with electric power and warm water. A first day walking in nature among the wildflowers. The photos are lovely, the essence of summer, especially the blue and red of cornflowers and poppies.

Thanks for the Dutch lesson!

I love that Monet painting and there’s a definite association with Little House on the Prairie. I remember it well. Interesting that it was also seen in the Netherlands.

I look forward to more from your island.

Wonderful flower pictures. Must have been great to be back walking in the Zeepeduinen. Such a beautiful area!

As a linguist I love a good language history lesson. Thanks for that. And, yes the English and Dutch words have a common Proto-Germanic root here.

I also remember watching "Little House on the Prairie" growing up. Although we did have 6 channels by then. Mainly because of the mandatory three Swiss languages. Never made that connection to Monet, but can definitely see why it reminded you of him.

Love Monet. Those flowers and beautiful colorful gardens. Just stunning.

Thanks for sharing impressions from your first walk. Hope you get over the jetlag soon and happy walking.

Thank you Evelyn. I wonder if the film maker was inspired by Monet. The setting is so similar, also leaving the bottom left and the top right empty, and making use of the track that western readers are used to follow on a page (starting top left and ending bottom right). And there is the smaller repetition element. Both in Monet's painting as in the Little House shot, the smaller version is repeated top left. In Monet's case the same wife/son image (although nobody knows for sure it it is indeed Camile and Jean, I would say it is highly likely), and in the Little House version it is the youngest daughter as a smaller version of the bigger daughters.

Sounds pretty reasonable. Love the thought that Monet might have been the inspiration.

Thank you Jean, that it what I hope my posts will bring this summer: refreshing and cleaning the mind in these days where the news doesn't make anyone happy. I will focus on small moments of beauty and happiness.

🌻 Thank you, Alexander, it must be nice to be on familiar soil again and smell the Noord zee.

I always watched Little House on the Prairie as a youngster and thought that that is the way to live. So far, I have been immersed (close to that lifestyle) enough by spending most of my time on horse farms. 🐴

And yes, Jetlag is not easy to negotiate. I find that going East is harder on the body than going West. Going East takes a couple of days to recuperate . . . πŸ›

I'm chomping on the bit, hoping to see the Shetland ponies again (-:

Power cuts can be quite good fun, unless in the middle of the working day! Looking forward to more posts on the island. I should resume my newsletter on the area we’ve moved to. Lots of nature here!

I mostly experienced how much I normally rely in wifi. So the power cut was a good reminder of life without internet, email, and social media. Enjoy the nature!

Ahh, thank you for sharing! I love that you are back on "your" island :) and I can 100% relate to the travel adjustments at this stage. It's OK. Health is the priority. We must stay strong because we have a lot to do yet! :) Take good care.
