(With a one-minute video). One of the great things about snowshoeing is that it's a low-impact activity that can be enjoyed by people of all ages and fitness levels. So whether you're looking for a leisurely stroll through the snow or a more challenging workout, snowshoeing can be adapted to your needs. This morning, I went snowshoeing with five friends in the Lac Philippe area in Gatineau Parc in Quebec, and it was another memorable experience.
A perfect winter wonderland. You’ve clearly embraced the frigid Canadian winters and prepared with all the essential gear.
Your photos and narrative are very compelling for these majestic scenes. But being a warm weather person, I will enjoy your pictures, video and descriptions from the warmth.
I’m happy you could enjoy this spectacular outing. It was surely needed after last week’s long days and hard work at the conference.
Thanks for the tour and those turkeys are enormous!
Ahhh, this looks absolutely dreamy! I love winter :) Shoeshoeing looks so fun, and I've yet to try it. It's on the list! Thank you for sharing your winter wonderland. :)
Crisscrossed tranquillity covered in deep white. Reflections of warmth cold. On this side of another lake, shades of green and blooming Spring. Parted worlds on the same planet. Nature always embracing both. Walking another day with shared gratitude.
You're becoming a true Canadian. Have you tried curling yet?
Some of those hills look pretty steep. Well done!
Only tried snowshoeing once. Not entirely sure if I liked the experience.
Looks so peaceful, I can just hear the silence and the sound of the snowshoes. Thank you for taking us along. Wild turkeys in the snow - that's just amazing. And those woodpeckers seem to have been really busy. Divine snacks - I now want a chocolate muffin, but the bakery downstairs only does carrot ones.
What a spectacular winter wonderland! So glad you could get away with friends after the long hours and negotiations during the Water 💦 Conference last week. Especially liked the Renaud Shelter, very quaint and inviting cottage. And the turkeys 🦃 are magnificent birds! Thank you for taking me along on this “cooling” journey. We’ve seen 85 degrees already this Spring in SC, not every day but how I dread summer! The Gardner will come tomorrow to get things in order on my spot of rugged terrain in SC near Lake Hartwell, just out of view from my house, unfortunately. So pleased you have a Tuesday kind of routine! Very pleasant and inviting; thank you for the travelogue. Enjoyed very much! 😊
Meanwhile in the Sonoran Desert of Arizona, our weather forecasters are taking turns predicting when the first triple digits of 2023 will show up. The big 100 could come within the next 3 or 4 weeks. Yikes. Oh, but it's a dry heat and the desert sunsets are truly a work of art.
So, it is surreal to imagine the beautiful winter stillness and crunch of snowshoes in Ottawa. Very cool. As I walk among the saguaros in my Nikes, I could use some sturdier footwear as there are "jumping cactus" -- cholla -- on my route along with the occasional sighting of a rattlesnake out of hibernation. I prefer your wild turkeys.
From the super blooms of the Desert Southwest to the lingering snow in Canada, Spring has made its arrival. My favorite time of year. A time of renewal. The Japanese Poet Soseki wrote "Wrapped within young leaves: the sound of water." A life-giving force. The possibilities are endless. Thanks for sharing, Alex. Hermosa primavera.
So beautiful!

I thought the same about returning life when I photographed the small stream of water finding its way through the snow-covered land
