Stargazers around the world are preparing for a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to see a greenish-colored comet with their own eyes. The C/2020 E3 (ZTF) comet is a "sungrazer." It passes exceptionally close to the sun during its orbit, which heats up the comet's surface, causing it to release gas and dust, creating a spectacular tail visible from Earth.
Fingers crossed ๐ค๐ผfor some clear skies. We havenโt had much of that in the last 6 weeks. But I am an optimist (aka geologist) so I will be out there searching the sky!
I love this. What a wonderful newsletter. Thank you for collecting all that information. Our galaxy is just amazing. Hoping for clear skies! Thanks for the reminder. Green is such a good color for a comet. Now I'm picturing Luna trying to get it out of the sky so she can play with it.
A once in many lifetimes opportunity!
I hope to see it.
Thank you for the in-depth information, so interesting.
I like that itโs green. Maybe a hopeful sign for our planet. ๐
We could use some positive green initiatives on this planet ๐
The best time to see the comet is pre dawn, north east February the second ! ๏ฟผIโll check if itโs for Switzerland also ?
Yes, for Switzerland too
Thanks. Itโs closest passage will be February first and second.

She would love that. She always tries to catch the reelections of sunlight on the walls, still hoping to actually do it some day.
Love this! I'm there! In fact, checking if Adler Planetarium is having a pre-dawn party.
they should, this one is quite special
This is exciting! So pleased to have seen Hale Bop too! Thanks for the heads-up Alex, we can always count on you to share โthe awesomeโ!
Will Luna be watching?
Thanks Clarisse. Sheโll likely be vast asleep ๐
