Both Spain and the island that I consider my home base are dealing with the consequences of our greedy use of fossil fuels. I'm frustrated that despite promises made, greenhouse gas emissions continue to increase worldwide. And it comes with a price. More emissions mean more extreme weather, and thus more misery and lives and futures lost. And yes, that also means even more lakes will be lost in these dunes. It's maddening that solutions are available but not the political will.
A beautiful article, in word and images. The photos are wonderful and the video captivating. Yes, I can imagine the thrill of these extraordinary sights!
I, too, noticed the small amount of water and wondered if these horses and ponies have another water source. The lack of water for all life is deeply worrying and your point about climate is well made. The beauty and wonderment youāve shared these past months are dependent upon a healthy planet thatās in worsening peril. They indeed go hand in hand.
Iām sorry for the lost subscriber who didnāt make the connection. Hopefully this enlightening article will cause a return. As a long time follower/reader of your posts in various formats, I know well of your tireless dedication to climate and environment. The beauty you share is the flip side of what youāve long dedicated yourself to. Thank you for being a top climate spokesman and warrior.
This is a great article reflecting deep thought and appreciation for both sides of the coin. Paradise is at risk.
I came here to write a note about my enjoyment of your post, but Lizzie Pi has expressed it so well, that I will just say, āMe, too!ā Thanks Lizzie Pi!
A very thoughtful posting for today. I agree, itās essential to express oneās thoughts about the beauty of nature, so we can know what is at stake if nothing is done about OUR worldwide climate crisis. Everything and everyone is interconnected, Luna must have been thrilled to have you return home!!!
They illustrate well the long lineage of these wild races and the risks to which the climate crisis now risks exposing them...
It's really a wild landscape, marvelous šæšš“
I understand when you call it Ā
Ā«Ā paradise" !
Our civilisation must also take stock of the beauty of our fauna and flora environments to understand the impacts of this alarming crisis and whose climax will hopefully be avoided...
I appreciate the reminders of the beauty. Thank you for sharing. Sorry you lost a subscriber for that reason. I personally think a balanced approach is a very good thing. Hoping today's vote in the US will make a difference. Luna is very pretty.
I agree with Lizzie and Jean that this is a beautiful article and specially about the paradise slices. The pics are a very nice addition. The photo in OāCebreiro reminds me of your epic walk on the Camino and all other photos of the beautiful home you enjoy and specially that of the pleasing Luna the cat and the well grown white hydrangea.
While the lack of water is very worrying every where and in all minds, your summer break about that issue is a welcome breath of fresh air.
I like your mix of stories and you were one of the people who inspired me to look at the beauty of nature and to share pictures of what I see when I'm out in nature. Thank you for that.
Those dunes are really a slice of paradise and those ponies! Just wow. I'd probably tear up as I did this morning when a highland cow licked my hand. Brought back memories.
I agree with you that we need to see what's at stake so we know what to protect. But as you also pointed out - the solutions are there, the political will istn't. I'm tempted to go into politics, but I might start by stepping on some toes. Please keep writing/posting about the beauty that is at stake!
And, Luna - what can I say. She's really posing for this one! Or she wants food. Or she thinks she deserves your full attention.
Thanks Lizzie. There is a lake that is permanently filled with water, so Iām glad they will always have water to drink there
Glad to hear that as I was concerned when they were drinking from such a tiny puddle.

She loves it here, she has all day little adventures in the garden, like chasing an insect or tasting grass. She canāt go outside in Ottawa
What a beautiful video on these superb ponies!
