Aww, Alexander I have never read anything about bathing in the North sea like this before, and that was not that long ago! I'm familiar with the beaches from 'Zandvoort aan Zee' going North and South. We arrived with our bathing suits under our clothing and went back home again the same way, still wet and with some extra beach sand.

I love swimming in the Ocean/Seas, and streak(long walks) on the beaches, except when the high winds sweeps up the fine sands.

That was a lot of work for the peoples of The Victorian times to get a healthy seawater fix. In recent times, I miss mine, swimming with a horse, who would be my 'Dipper'. 🐴

Thank you for bringing this up, and what fun these historic supporting links are (-:

about a hundred years ago this tradition ended, such a change compared to today's beach culture

Seawater as a cure seems has been around for awhile. Lovely beaches and seawater soothe not only the body but the mind too. Thanks for the video and enjoyable history.

Love that video. My kind of beach weather ;-). And that's one stunning sunset too.

So, we have bathing in the North Sea and going up into the mountains for the fresh air to heal people's ailments. I love both, although I can't remember the last time I swam in the North Sea. Maybe that's what's been missing. I stood by the sea in Tromsø in February 2020. Not the best time for a swim.

Those bathing machines made me smile. Thanks for that little history lessons. Oh, I just remembered that Mr. Bean episode where he tries to change into his swimming trunks on the beach. Hilarious.

Wonder what people who lived 100-150 years ago would make of beaches today ... quite different! And nudist beaches might give them a heart attack.

Ahhh, brings back memories of being at the beach in Wassenaar and Noordwijk (especially the wind!). Thanks!

I'm glad the wind is often not as bad as in this video, I was amazed to see some people swimming.

Bathing in salty water for health, the beach pavilions, Telle’s first bathing machines and the sometimes strong winds. Thank you for your article about nature and history of this North Sea island.
