What a wonderful article, lovely photos and beautiful video of charming and idyllic Zierikzee!
I can imagine exploring this storybook town and getting lost in the abundant history. As far back as 976! Itโs fascinating to think of the tales this town could tell. The many invasions and dramatic events that have occurred but it has survived to be a showplace on the island. Interesting detail about the slave fund and how it was used for a good reason.
The market is delightful with beautiful plants and flowers and the cheese shop would be a must stop!
Many of the scenes are familiar and itโs great to see them again. Thanks for two minutes to dream about!
PS. Read the article from a year ago and shaking my head at Louie Gohmert and other things!
Thanks Lizzie. I always enjoy going a year back in time and it is fun to do that with my own newsletters. I had completely forgotten about that article.
Lovely! Thank you for making the video... the scenery reminds me of the time I once spent in Volendam. The soundtrack to your video is perfect, sort of "Masterpiece Theatre-ish." What is it, if I may ask?
Alex, thank you for sharing the refreshing historical beauty and calm of Zierikzee, a reassuring reminder that life continues amidst the chaos elsewhereโฆa reminder to pause, breath deeply with gratitude for all I have, we all have. Have a lovely weekend โ๏ธ๐ณ๐
I love market day! No idea why everybody wants to go to Amsterdam Iโm sure itโs nice, but those gems of smaller towns youโve been sharing โ Iโd much prefer those, Iโm sure. Iโm bookmarking โmooistedorpjesโ!
I have a direct train to Amsterdam. I think I might hop out in Utrecht, or it looks like it stops in sโHertogenbosch as well. And they have re-introduced the night train. Thatโs excellent news.
โPoortsโ are some of my favorite tourist attractions wherever I go. And wow on the history of Zierikzee once again. Fascinating!
That first picture โ the symmetry, the shapes, the colors, that cyclist right in the middle. I love everything about it. Same goes for the video. Youโre a great Zeeland ambassador! De Zeeuwse Hemel looks like the perfect place to end an afternoon of shopping.
Thank you for sharing.
P.S.: I remember that post from 1 year ago โ and to think that some peopleโs claims and ideas have gotten even crazier.
Both Utrecht and โs Hertogenbosch are worth a visit. I left the island this morning but will be back there later this summer. So expect a bit more histyof the islands in this newsletter
Can't believe I misspelled 's Hertogenbosch - all I had to do is copy it from the train timetable. I think I need some coffee. Looking forward to more island history.

Nice that you like it. Iโm traveling now so a bit complicated to look up the music. I will let you know once I find it in the next few days
Don't go to any trouble. I thought you might know the music off the top of your mind. Take good care!
