Although Renoir's work may have been an odd choice by the establishment's owners in their aim to recreate Paris in Almonte, Ontario, Renoir's masterpiece seemed instead to mirror what I was doing today: escaping from the realities of city life.
Thanks Alex for taking me back to Chatou where i used to live while working in Paris back in the 1990s... we went often to the Maison Founaise restaurant by the Seine where Renoir painted his masterpiece: it still has the "Renoir Balcony" with the same striped red and white awning ... makes me long for a trip to Paris (or Canada)! https://www.maisonfournaise.com/en/photos/#images-30
Hi Alister, Thanks for this; fascinating to see how it is all still there. I once visited Renoir's house in Cagnes-sur-mer, just as I traced other places where the impressionists lived and worked. I'll add this one to my bucket list.
The Renoir is so very joyous, exquisite, colors & details extraordinaire; takes me away from my overwhelming glimpse of world news; thank you for that reminder. I take Sundays off, house rule, but had slipped just a little. And if you could beam over one of those crepes, my belly would be as happy as can be! Enjoy your evening. 😘🕊️🎼💃🏼🎠
“It's a world where the natural surroundings and human interactions exude calm and gentleness, a scene you would like to join. It is the kind of image that never fails to make me feel happy; it transports me briefly to Renoir's dreamy world of loveliness, where I like to escape to...”
Words that transport to that world. I feel it today. I’ll take Paris.
I grew up with a reproduction of Luncheon of the Boating Party on a wall in my parent's sitting room! When I was in Washington DC, a few years ago, I discovered that the original was at The Phillips Collection. I rushed there and stood in awe, the joyful colours glistening. It remains a treasured memory of that trip.
Renoir seemed to be at ease with that, starting with just painting roses on porcelain, his capacity to capture beauty kept growing to the highest levels.
Yes absolutely Alexander 💯 Let's reduce emissions and work together, adapt to the impacts on climate changes world wide. US, Russia, China and the list goes on.. Let's strengthen global responses and responsibilities. Viva Paris.. We want our beauty back.
You have a real gift, to be able to paint a picture in my mind with your words; I always enjoy your escapes from the news. Thank you. 😸
Thank you, Jean. So happy to read this 😊

Oh, Alister, how lovely. Thanks for adding this. And the food looks divine!
Thanks Lizzie! Well worth a visit for the food and the Seine lazily flowing past on a summer evening!
⚜️💭💭💭😊
So many discoveries I do thanks to your visits and your love of coffee and special cafes.
I wonder though which is the greenest city in Canada ?

Just checking out that gorgeous Renoir again on 12/21/2023! The winter solstice as it happens. Love that photo, again! 😘
It’s the right day of the year to look at that summery scene

I think we all have always a bit of Paris 😊

Sketches of the days. Remains of beauty. Silent tones. A cup of intertwined memories.
