Yes, still so much to be done, but it was nice to celebrate successes. So many people have worked so hard for all I described in this story. It's an amazing success for American diplomacy too. And a success for loyalty shown by other countries towards the US who didn't have a stake in releasing those prisoners.

Simply an excellent essay. I love the stories, the parallels, and the hopefulness that requires perseverance on the part of the sane, voting public. Thank you.

Thank you, Mike. I left out my comments on Trump's reaction not to spoil anybody's hope and good mood. He's sulking like a little boy after a soccer match when his team has scored but he didn't.

Biles faced a significant setback during the previous Olympic Games in Tokyo, where she withdrew from several events due to a mental health concern. Her decision was met with criticism and support, but it marked a low point in her career. However, Biles returned to the sport with renewed vigor, overcoming her challenges to achieve gold once again, embodying the essence of perseverance and resilience.

Similarly, French swimmer Lรฉon Marchand's performance today was nothing short of heroicโ€โ€ฆโ€ฆ

I could have written more about my admiration for the people I described. Simone Biles is such an inspiring example of overcoming her challenging situation (and the criticism she received). So much power and elegance! Marchand's race had me sitting on the edge of my chair; so exciting!

Yes, Trump's whining was stunning. You may even get the impression that the former US President doens't really care about his citizens, which would of course by unthinkable in a democracy; that's usually the case with dictators.
