Never before has there been a year where we have collectively emitted so much greenhouse gasses as 2023. This year has also been the warmest year ever recorded, resulting in extreme weather events negatively impacting the lives of hundreds of millions of people.
Both of these sad milestones are related: as long as we keep polluting the atmosphere by burning fossil fuels at unprecedented levels, we trap the heat of the sun that enters the atmosphere. We all know this; it is 19th-century scientific knowledge.
