Thoughts about biodiversity and the climate crisis
Island Stories #36: Reflecting on nature, conservation, the IPCC report, and leadership
This afternoon, I was in the dunes close to home, on the west side of the island Schouwen-Duiveland. I had been reading in the IPCC report, and walking in nature is perhaps the best way to reflect on all its deeply worrying information.
There were many of the semi-feral ponies on my route, and I took some time to film them. I added them to my two-minute message in this video.

I could use one after reading in the IPCC report.
Beautiful video, sobering message. We could all feel the effects of climate change first hand across Europe these past months, but it doesn't feel like people will change the way the think or live their lives.
Love those ponies and Highland Cattle watching from behind a tress - how cool is that. Thank you for sharing and I hope a lot of people hear your message.
A beautiful montage of scenes from your incredible island underscores the important words in your message of the state of climate change & the critical juncture we’ve reached. You’ve dedicated yourself to this impending menace that’s now reached code red. Delivered with earnest gravity & sincerity, you illustrate with these beautiful dunes, nature & animals what we stand to lose without drastic changes as proven by the IPCC report. Very well done, thank you!
The watcher in the woods seems to want to add his thanks as well.
I hope you earn many cups of coffee for this commendable effort as well as your many other tireless efforts for protecting our planet.
